No. Wake word detection ("Hey Salt" or "Hey Pepper") runs entirely on your device using DaVoice — your audio is never sent to a server just to listen for your name. The app only begins processing your voice after it hears the wake word or you tap the microphone. Salt & Pepper don't store your voice recordings. Ever.
When you speak to Salt or Pepper after activating the microphone, your voice is processed to understand your request and respond. Salt & Pepper do not store your voice recordings. Wake word detection happens entirely on your device and never leaves your phone.
Absolutely. Everything in the app works by typing too. You can search for recipes, browse, save, and cook entirely through text. Voice is there to make things easier, especially when your hands are busy, but it's never required.

Salt and Pepper are your two AI kitchen companions, each with their own personality. Salt is cool, witty, and confident — think of a friend who always knows the best restaurants. Pepper is warm, genuine, and playful — like your favorite home cook who makes everything feel easy. You can switch between them anytime.
Three ways: say "Hey Salt" or "Hey Pepper" for hands-free activation, tap the microphone button on screen, or type by tapping the search bar to open a text chat.
Almost anything related to cooking. Search for recipes ("I want something with chicken"), get step-by-step cooking guidance, ask about substitutions ("What can I use instead of heavy cream?"), set timers, save recipes, add ingredients to your kitchen, and more. They're culinary experts designed to help like a knowledgeable friend, not just a search engine.
That's exactly what it's designed for. Ask Salt or Pepper to read steps, set timers, answer questions about ingredients, suggest substitutions — all by voice so your hands stay clean.
Salt & Pepper searches across thousands of top cooking websites and blogs to find the best recipes. Results are ranked by quality and relevance, not by ads or SEO. You also have access to exclusive recipes from the platform's featured chefs.
Absolutely. Just tap the share button in Safari, Chrome, or any app and select Salt & Pepper. The app automatically grabs the recipe and saves it to your collection — no copy-pasting needed. You can also paste a URL directly when creating a recipe.
Yes, multiple ways. Say "help me create a recipe" and Salt or Pepper will build one with you through a conversation. You can also write one manually, or paste a website URL and customize an existing recipe. All methods support AI-generated cover images.
Salt & Pepper is built around conversation. Every feature — search, cooking mode, substitutions, timers — works by voice. And search results are ranked by quality and fit, not who paid for placement. It's the difference between a search engine and a kitchen companion.
Salt & Pepper is available for both iPhone (iOS) and Android devices. Download it from the App Store or Google Play.
You'll need an internet connection for voice features, recipe search, and syncing. However, saved recipes and your kitchen inventory are available offline, so you can still access your collection and cook from saved recipes without a connection.
Salt & Pepper learns your preferences as you use the app — your dietary needs, favorite cuisines, go-to ingredients, and cooking habits all shape your experience. Search results get more relevant, suggestions get smarter, and your kitchen companions get to know you better over time.
Salt & Pepper currently supports English. Additional language support is on the roadmap — stay tuned for updates.
Not yet, but it's something being explored. For now, each account is individual with its own personalized preferences, kitchen inventory, and saved recipes. Family plans are a natural fit for cooking — it's on the list.
